One of the very best resources to learn card tricks on the market today...
CRASH COURSE I in Sleight
of Hand Card
Tricks
Reviewed by Mum Magic Magazine
Demonstrated and taught by Brad Christian, produced by Ellusionist.
There are a lot of magic enthusiasts out there who attend conventions,
club meetings, and live shows when they can. They have learned a few
tricks and are ready to go to the next level. They would love to do card
magic but find it a little intimidating. This videotape would be the perfect
next step for them.
At the same time, after 30 years in magic I found the tapes very
motivating as well, and noted a couple of items that I would like to work on.
The material in this tape is very sound, the six tricks are foolers and
the sleights useful and well taught.
They include: the mechanic's grip, obtaining and holding breaks; swing cuts;
injog controls; the double lift; false cuts and the dribble; protrude control;
the use of the corner short card to force a card and to control a card; the
top palm; and the Braue reversal.
That is an excellent selection of sleights that you can use
not only for the tricks on this tape but for many others, as well. The card
tricks and card sleights are not too difficult to learn, and you can quickly
succeed with the tricks - a couple of transpositions, a clever location of
two selected cards, a chosen card reverses in the deck, and a variation
of Vernon's Out of Sight. I like it!
The tape runs about an hour. Cost $29.00.

The reactions are genuine
here,
which is a nice change of pace.
Scouring card magic related
newsgroups I stumbled upon the Ellusionist website, and immediately
scoffed at the titles. Ninja? Crash Course? Hardly items that I would
need, I thought. I already know how Blaine does his tricks, I
don't need to re-learn the double lift.
About now, it should be painfully
obvious how far a 20-something's arrogance will get you in life. I hang
out in coffee shops and talk about movies. Come on people. Mildly
intrigued, I did some digging, and behold - video downloads?
Previews? Reviews? Message boards? Who is this guy? Who are these
people? As soon as I could get home - I downloaded Ninja 1. Crash Course
1 and Ninja 2 the next day.
Well well well.
I simply cannot ask for a better instructor.
With Ninja 1 and a very intimate
environment, Brad stands at the card table, and he doesn't just
instruct, or "show". He teaches you. Brad conveys that he
really wants you to learn how it's done - providing positive
reinforcement, detailed instructions, and presentations on how to
develop your own patter, and make magic what it always should be - an
amazing art.
He shows you material you never even
knew existed, and he's dead on with every one of his rants about
the magic industry.
"Trust me, people do not know about this stuff - and they
cannot see what you are doing", he
mentions often. Brad's right. David Blaine didn't dilute the impact of
the double-lift, people simply still do not know about it. The pass?
I'm amazed I've never heard of it before! Practice, practice, practice.
Although this man looks and sounds
frighteningly like actor Jason Lee (not a bad thing!), Brad Christian
shows you things you should be craving to know - and he does it quickly,
with a very relaxed and confident tone.
The videos move at a rapid pace, but it's
in order for you to get more magic for your buck, and that you do.
The movies do move fast, but Brad isn't rushing you, nor is he leaving
anything out. The Ellusionist team encourages you to watch the videos
over and over, since these effects are truly powerful moves that
deserve the dedication.

Hey, I'm just saying...
The message boards are a font of
endless information. After you purchase a video - you receive access to
previously protected parts of the Ellusionist forums - almost worth the
price you paid right there. People in the forums are
constantly helping one another, and sharing those little secrets that
make those moves easier and easier - with more lasting impact.
I have always hated the swindle that is
known as "pricing magic supplies", for instance - $50 for
"Scotch and Soda" at a local magic dealer is just outrageous.
Ellusionist prices are fair since you get a video, priceless knowledge,
bonus material, and a dedicated support team more than willing to help.
Multiple Riffles, passes, cuts, fans,
flourishes, proper handling, technique, patter, encouragement, routines,
and hot new methods are just a part of what you get with the Ellusionist
videos. They are well made, and are obviously shot professionally. The
first time you watch one - you'll just enjoy watching the video - and
forget you're supposed to be learning things! Marvelous.
Don't think you don't have
to practice.
Ellusionist just makes it easier.
Trust me people. Of all that can teach
you magic out there, you won't find so much, so fast, so well, for so
little.
Don't worry what order you purchase
your videos in, you'll wind up owning them all anyway. Personally, they
have heightened my magic to amazing new levels - and I'm damned picky
with what I feel comfortable performing, nervous hands and all. I have
to add Brad to my list of people I'd like to meet, maybe he can give me
some serious help on my invisible pass.
